How to decorate your fireplace for Christmas?

13.03.2023

Christmas is a short time and goes by quickly but you can keep the festive mood going for much longer. To do this, it is a good idea to decorate the house as early as a few days before Christmas and leave it a little longer than until the New Year. One of the places in your home that is especially worth decorating for Christmas is the fireplace.
So how to decorate a fireplace? Which Christmas decorations will work best?

Christmas decorations for the fireplace

There are many ideas for fireplace decoration. Depending on your preferences, you can opt for simple decorations, minimalistic decorations or Scandinavian-style decorations. Candle holders, candles, lanterns, Christmas wreaths and garlands will be perfect. The most popular fireplace decoration is, of course, large colourful socks.
It is important that the fireplace decoration matches the style in which the interior is arranged and the other decorations you place in your home. It is also worth remembering that sometimes less is more and not to take the number of decorations too far.

Fireplace and entrance for Santa Claus

If you grew up in a house that had a fireplace, your parents must have explained to you that Santa Claus enters through the chimney. He leaves the presents, then returns along the same path to the roof where he has parked his reindeer-drawn sleigh. Yes, the fireplace in your home is like a door for Santa. It is therefore worth taking care of the decoration – this will lend the entire house a festive atmosphere.

While in Poland Santa Claus leaves presents under the Christmas tree, in Anglo-Saxon countries he puts them in socks hung on the mantelpiece. You can use this idea, but if you want a larger gift, hang a larger sock. Huge decorative Christmas socks are on sale to fit many gifts.

If the décor of your home is in a rustic, classic or Scandinavian-style then minimalist decoration on the fireplace will work just fine. You can place spruce, yew or holly twigs by the fireplace. Add some décor with a Christmas flair in red, gold or silver and a few candles. Such a seemingly austere décor will introduce an aesthetically pleasing but warm atmosphere.

Ornaments made by children on Christmas mantelpiece

Children love to make their own decorations. Colourful paper chains, fancy cardboard hanging ornaments, modelling clay figures or hand-painted pictures will all look great by the fireplace. Remember that these little works of art will be admired not only by the proud parents but also by the grandparents, uncles and aunts invited to the Christmas party, who will certainly enjoy them.
